VISENPACK / PACKAGING GUIDE
Bulk Stretch Film Orders: MOQ, Samples and a Clear RFQ
Before choosing a bulk stretch film supplier, prepare a specification that every quotation can follow. A request for ‘your best wholesale price’ leaves too much open: film thickness, usable film weight, core weight, packing and quantity can all differ. A clear request for quotation, or RFQ, makes those differences visible before you place an order.
This guide covers the purchasing details to settle when ordering wholesale stretch film from a manufacturer. Use it to prepare your first production order or make repeat purchasing easier.
Separate sample quantity from production MOQ
A sample request and a production order answer different questions. The sample helps you assess a specified film. Production MOQ defines the minimum quantity the supplier will accept for the specification and packing you intend to buy.
Ask for both quantities separately. Also confirm whether the sample matches the proposed production specification, how it will be identified, and which sample and delivery charges apply. Sample availability alone does not establish the minimum quantity for a custom production run.
Do not assume one stretch film MOQ applies to every product. Ask the manufacturer to confirm the minimum order for each requested specification in writing, together with the unit: rolls, cartons, pallets or kilograms.
List quantities for every SKU
Give each combination of film type, width, thickness, roll size, color and packing its own line. A total order of several thousand rolls does not tell a supplier how that quantity is divided. Ask whether the minimum applies per SKU and whether different specifications can share one shipment.
Illustrative example: a buyer requests 600 hand rolls in clear film and 200 machine rolls in another specification. Those are two purchase lines, not one interchangeable quantity of 800 rolls. The supplier must confirm each line separately. These quantities are examples, not VISENPACK order minimums.
Start with the right product format: hand stretch film for manual application, machine stretch film for a wrapper, or jumbo rolls for a converting requirement. State the actual application rather than asking the supplier to infer it from roll weight.
Define what each roll contains
Specify width and thickness with units, then state the required length or net film weight. If you include both, ask the supplier to confirm they are consistent. Define acceptable tolerances rather than treating nominal figures as a complete specification.
Keep net film weight separate from core weight and packed shipping weight. Net film weight excludes the core; shipping weight may also include cartons, protection and pallets. Our guide to stretch film net weight and core weight explains the distinction. In your RFQ, request a separate value for each.
For machine film, provide the wrapper model and check its permitted roll dimensions, core fit and operating requirements. Equipment specifications can set limits on film width and roll diameter; for example, Lantech publishes these limits for its Q Automatic wrapper. Use your own machine documentation when approving a roll.
Compare quotations on the same basis
Send the same RFQ to each shortlisted supplier. Before comparing totals, check that every quote uses the same film specification, quantity, weight basis and packing. A lower price per roll is difficult to interpret if the rolls contain different amounts of film.
Record the quote currency, price unit, validity period, payment terms, delivery basis and any separately charged items. If you compare a price per kilogram, establish whether the kilogram refers to net film or a weight that includes the core. Ask for differences to be resolved in a revised quotation.
Confirm packing, destination and timing in writing
Specify rolls per carton, cartons per pallet if applicable, label requirements and any carton artwork. Ask for proposed packing dimensions and gross shipping weight so your shipping arrangements use the intended configuration.
Provide the destination country, port or delivery address as appropriate to the quote requested. Distinguish the production completion date, expected dispatch date and estimated arrival date. Ask what starts the production schedule, such as order approval, payment or artwork confirmation. Have the supplier state the agreed delivery basis and exclusions; avoid relying on ‘shipping included’ without details.

Make repeat orders traceable
After approval, retain the final specification, packing details, sample reference and purchase order together. Give the specification a version number. On a reorder, refer to that version and ask the manufacturer to flag proposed changes before production.
Agree how batches will be identified and what receiving checks will be recorded. Request written confirmation if roll dimensions, film weight, core, color, packing or an agreed performance requirement changes. A previous product name alone is an incomplete reorder instruction.
