Coreless Stretch Film: A Buyer’s Ordering Checklist
A quotation for coreless stretch film can look complete while leaving the most important question unanswered: will the roll work with your wrapping method? Removing the paper core changes the roll format, but buyers still need to agree on the film grade, dispensing arrangement and acceptance checks. Use this checklist to turn a product description into an order that receiving and warehouse teams can verify.
Define the film separately from the roll format
Coreless means the finished roll is supplied without a separate rigid core. It does not, by itself, mean the film is pre-stretched. Ask the supplier to state both points independently: whether the roll is coreless, and whether the film has been pre-stretched before delivery.
Also identify the intended application. A hand-wrapping roll and a machine-wrapping roll need different handling arrangements, so the winding format alone is an incomplete purchasing specification. Start with the available coreless stretch film product information, then confirm the proposed grade for your operation.
Check what actually holds the roll
Send a photograph of the dispenser or film carriage, its model number and the way it supports the current roll. Ask for written confirmation of the required adapter, handle or support arrangement. An empty centre that looks familiar in a photograph is insufficient evidence of compatibility.
- Confirm film width, finished roll outside diameter and the permitted roll weight.
- Agree on the inner opening dimensions and any dispensing components supplied with the film.
- Identify whether handles or adapters are reusable, included with every carton or ordered separately.
- Check how operators control tension, change rolls and remove the final usable film.
A coreless roll and its dispenser must work together. Confirm the fit of the proposed roll, handle and any adapter with a sample trial instead of assuming that every coreless roll fits every dispenser.
Write a specification that can be checked on arrival
State the film width, thickness or agreed grade designation, and the quoted length or net film weight. Include tolerances and the measurement basis rather than leaving receiving staff to interpret a catalogue description. Keep carton weight and transport packaging separate from the quantity of usable film.
Record the unwinding direction and the required cling arrangement. If the supplier recommends a particular side facing the load, add that instruction to the approved sample record. For machine use, include the wrapper model, carriage type and the proposed operating settings; do not transfer a stretch setting from another film without a trial.
Ask how each roll is protected in transit and how cartons identify the product and batch. Clear carton labels and a retained sample help receiving teams distinguish similar-looking grades.
Trial the beginning, middle and end of a roll
A short demonstration of the first few wraps does not answer every dispensing question. Run a sample through the stages that matter to your shift:
- Fit the roll using the intended dispenser or approved adapter and record any extra setup work.
- Wrap representative loads, noting handling effort, unwind behaviour, breaks and load distortion.
- Repeat checks later in the roll, including access to the final usable film and the roll-change procedure.
- Inspect the wrapped load after your normal holding and handling steps, using your established load-security criteria.
Approve film performance and dispensing fit together. If either changes, repeat the relevant checks. A sample accepted on a supplier's demonstration equipment should still be verified on the equipment that will use the production order.
Put the approved arrangement on the purchase order
Include the sample reference, agreed specification, dispenser or adapter details, carton quantity and batch-identification requirements. Name the inspection method and who will resolve a mismatch. Specify how replacements will be evaluated if the film grade or winding arrangement changes.
To request a comparable quotation, send your coreless roll requirements and dispenser photographs with the intended load and wrapping method. That gives both parties a concrete basis for confirming compatibility before ordering.
